In the museum you can find exhibits that cover the times from 8th century BC to 2nd century AD. The exhibition is housed at the old Mayor Manor, a building of the 19th century. It is a two storey building with four exhibition areas.
The city of Heraklion in the Middle Ages it was known as the "Castle". Rightly named so because of that time was surrounded by walls. Remains of this wall are located scattered within the city.

The exhibits of the museum are very important, and consist of sculptures from Livadeia and Cheronea, ceramics from prehistoric and historic locations around Cheronea, Elateia,coins and weapons from the Tomb of Macedonians and the mass graves of Thebians in Cheronea.
