Our meeting point for this excursion is set at the historic Avdou village at 18:30.
You are welcomed with a treat, homemade lemonade or mountain tea with some traditional sweet pastry and then we proceed to Nikolaos Kayiambis/ Chatzikoukoula’s neighbourhood (hero of the 1821 Revolution) with the tour at the “Askomadoura”workshop (type of bagpipe) where you can see all the ancient Cretan traditional instruments , handmade embroidery, tools and Minoan toys.
All the musical instruments that are still saved are presented such as “triton” or “bourou” or “korgialo”, bull’s horn, “diavlos”, “askomadoura”, sistro and lyre.
A type of flute (aerophone) and a “diavlos” will be manufactured lively according to the techniques and the morphology of the instruments found in excavations and then a small ancient music presentation will follow.
After a short break for questions and your choice of souvenir from our exhibition area the walking guided tour in the village starts, around the picturesque streets, monuments and Byzantine era churches where we give you important information about the sites.
