Departing from Attica early in the morning you will make a first stop at the Corinth Canal, where you will have the chance to take photos of this famous channel that connects the Aegean Sea with the Gulf of Corinth.
The Corinth canal is an ingenious engineering construction that allows ships to cut short their sailing time and thus avoid circumnavigating the Peloponnesian peninsula for more than 400 kilometers.
Continuing your journey in time, past towns with a rich history as well as strong contemporary presence, you will go back three thousand years ago and visit the Acropolis of Mycenae. Mycenae was the center of the Mycenaean or Achaean civilization.
According to mythology, the city was built by Perseus with the assistance of Cyclopes (one-eyed giants). Your guide will tell you all about the treasures found in the enclosure, such as its cyclopean walls, the Lions Gate, various tombs of ancient kings, the Palace, the Cistern and its 99 underground steps, the Tomb of Egisto, the tomb of Clytemnestra among others.
Next to the Acropolis of Mycenae, you can see the Tomb, attributed to King Agamemnon, and one of the greatest accomplishments of the Mycenaean civilization.
At midday, you will have a lunch break.
Continuing your trip, you will arrive at the first capital of Greece, Nafplion, where you will have a free afternoon to wander around its alleys and feel the magic of one of the most picturesque cities in Greece. You will then check in at our hotel for a good rest.
Tip: Enjoy a cup of coffee and a delicious meal at Syntagma Square or sip a cool drink overlooking Bourtzi – always lit up at night!
You will leave Nafplion early in the morning and take in the beauty of the northeastern Peloponnese, an area which is famous for its orange orchards, olive groves, and beautiful shores.
After traversing briefly through hills and mountains, you will reach Epidaurus, where you will steep yourself in the culture of the 4th century BC. Epidaurus was one of the most important pilgrimage centers of antiquity, dedicated to the medical god Asclepius.
On the mountainside of Knortion, the famous Theater of Epidaurus is the best-preserved theater to this day. Its construction was not intended solely for theatrical displays but it was part of the therapeutic process and the healing of the soul.
The Theater of Epidaurus has a capacity of about 16,000 spectators and still hosts performances of ancient Greek drama by native and international artists, especially during the summer months.
At the end of your visit to Epidaurus, it will be time to head back to Athens.
Tip: The Theater of Epidaurus is famous for its perfect acoustics. If you drop a pin on the stage, it will be heard even if you are sitting in the last seats of the theater!
