Sougia, Paleochora, Loutro, Ballos, Elafonissi, and through Sfakia on the opposite to Gavdos. Many streets are still paved with dirt, whereas the asphalt paved are quite new. To see the wildest side of West Crete, we visit isolated villages and incredible beaches.
The paleontological collection of the Municipality of Rethymnon, which consists of findings from excavations from all over the prefecture by German scientist Siegfired Kuss (University of Freiburg), will form the basis of the exhibition. The Goulandris foundation has been looking after this collection in collaboration with the University of Athens (Historical Geology and Palaeontology Faculty).
The exhibits of the museum are very important, and consist of sculptures from Livadeia and Cheronea, ceramics from prehistoric and historic locations around Cheronea, Elateia,coins and weapons from the Tomb of Macedonians and the mass graves of Thebians in Cheronea.
The “star” location of the prefecture is Platanias, 11km west of the center of Chania, Platanias is the most suitable and convenient starting point of a lovely journey to flawless landscapes, white sandy beaches
