The Chania public gallery is housed in a three storey building.The aim of the PGC is to actively contribute to the culturam vision of the Municipality of Chania, which, having the existence and operation of the Public Gallery.
The Chania public gallery is housed in a three storey building, built in 1910. It is a typical example of Neoclassic Greek Architecture of the commercial and industrial buildings of the end of 19th – beginning of the 20th century.
Repairs were completed in 2001, and the gallery started operating in 2003. Since its opening, the P.G.C. has presented to the public in Chania 21 exhibitions of works of renowned artists, as well as an impressive publishing history. All the important exhibitions of the PGC are complimented by parallel exhibitions and training programs for children and adults alike.
The aim of the PGC is to actively contribute to the culturam vision of the Municipality of Chania, which, having the existence and operation of the Public Gallery, wishes to promote the place not just as a museum, but as a means to protect and preserve civilization.
The katholikon of St. Francis monastery was one of the greatest temples of Venetian Candia. When Candia fell to the Turks in 1669, the temple was converted into an imperial mosque dedicated to Muhammad the Conqueror, the conqueror of Constantinople.
Foinikas, at a distance of 80 kms from chania, opposite to Loutro, is a beach with many pebbles and rocky seabottom, ideal for underwater fishing.
The city of Heraklion in the Middle Ages it was known as the "Castle". Rightly named so because of that time was surrounded by walls. Remains of this wall are located scattered within the city.
