The Historical and Folklore Museum of Rethymno is housed in a 17th century Venetian mansion.
The History and Folklore Museum Rethymno was founded in 1974 for the purpose of research and gathering historical and folk material of Crete and especially of Rethymno prefecture.
The collections of the Museum are derived from donations and purchases and include more than 5,000 objects.
The Museum still has room for educational programs, lectures, cultural events, equipped with modern audiovisual media.
The permanent exhibition of the museum contains woven, costumes, embroidery, lace – thread compositions, ceramics, baskets, traditional agricultural tools, machining, tools traditional professions – knife maker, grommet, reseller, shoemaker.
The Toplou Monastery is historical and dates back to its inception in the 15th century. Collapsed by an earthquake in 1612 and was rebuilt with the financial assistance of the Venetians.
The Museum of European Border Guard Corps of Europe was created from the Folklore Center Academy of Athens in Paleochora Chania.
Aenea was a small Macedonian city, which was attached to the then newlyfounded Thessaloniki, when it was founded in 315BC by Kassandros. It was close to the Thermaikos gulf.
